Triumph TR3


2 door, 2 seater, produced from 1955-1958, total production was 13 377 cars.

In the autumn of 1955 various continual developments, changes and improvements to both body and mechanical specifications led to a new model for 1956. The TR2 was superseded by the similar looking TR3. The immediate point of identification was the egg-crate grille that now adorned the nose of the car. Engine power initially improved to 70 Kw, up from 67 Kw, but further refinements boosted this to 74 Kw during the life of this model. The following autumn Triumph again left the competition standing by becoming the first sports car in its class to fit disc brakes at the front as standard. This also coincided with the fitting of a more robust rear axle from the Standard Vanguard MK3 saloon. The TR3 could be specified with an overdrive that operated on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. Other options included wire wheels and small rear seat for occasional use.

Total TR2-3B production was something under 80,000 cars. Several other cars also shared basic TR2-3 running gear, such as the Swallow Doretti, Peerless, Warwick, and the (Vignale) Italia. TR engines also powered versions of the Morgan sports car.
